Tight is Right: Early Game Non Turbo SNG strategy
Early Game Strategy for Non Turbo Sit And Go’s is optimal for winning poker players, here we talk about these aspects of the game with actual video play.
1. The blinds are so small that they aren’t worth stealing. For example, if you take them down the blinds preflop lvl 1 with 1500 chips, that means your stack size increases from 1500 chips to 1530 chips or a 2 percent increase. Its such an insignificant amount; the risk is much greater than the reward.
2.Another reason we need to be tight is because bluffing is not an option for winning a pot. This is because many of the other players at low stakes sngs dont like to fold. They will call your bluff down with weak cards much more often than a good player will. They will also chase and bluff back a lot more often. You only want to be bluffing when you think there is a good chance the other player will fold.
3. Also, early in a sng you will have less reads on an opponent, another reason to be tight and not to bluff early.
4. Semi-bluffing during the first 3 levels is slightly different. Semi-bluffing a very strong draw, 13 outs on the flop is a reasonable play however, if you get called ur usually going to have 13 outs maximum that means at the very best you are a coinflip. Early in a sng tournament we are not looking for coinflips. We are looking to minimize risk and conserve chips until the blinds are higher and we get closer to the bubble.
5. Another reason to play very tight in the beginning is chip management. You want to have enough chips left when the blinds become more valuable. Since we arent bluffing the only way to collect chips is to bet or call with the best hand. Later on when the blinds are bigger we will be using our stack to steal them. If we are too loose in the beginning, we will often find ourselves too short stacked.
